Batik Beginnings, Judy Farrow

Batik started in the 60's with Olive Clayton, continued in the 70's with Birgid Thompson, and through the 80's with Hazel Wainwright.

A student of Hazel's, Judy Farrow, became serious about batik (and quilting) in the early '90's and with the assistance of an NWT Arts Council grant developed three large batik based quilts that were exhibited in the NWT legislative building. Judy has experimented widely with dyes and other batik and design techniques and shared her insights with classes she has taught.

As of August 2001, Judy and Malcolm moved to Vancouver Island. Her new studio will be in their octagonal house - perfect for a quilter/artist.
